A common problem with a simple resolution....

One of the reasons the Don achieved much success was that his people always had a clearly defined understanding of what was expected of them. Sure Fat Clemenza never had to sign off on a position description or sit down for an official KPI handover but does anyone doubt that he was unsure of what the Don expected.

Often an employee fails to deliver what his boss expects because he or she does not know what target to hit...Unlike Michael when he took out Captain McClusky in the Italian restaurant.

In my experience one of the simplest and most efficient means of generating increased performance from staff is simply by ensuring that your people understand what it is you want to achieve.

Sounds basic but in practice is one of the most common causes of disharmony in the workplace.

Competent and reasonably motivated people will generally rise to the challenge of meeting an objective, if the objective has been clearly defined and they can understand what is required in order to deliver on a goal, project or activity.

A beginning....

The Godfather was born in Corleone, Sicily and this blog was born out of a belief that there are very few managers and leaders of people who actually know what they are doing and are able to make a positive impact and difference in the lives of the organisations and teams that they lead.

Don Corleone was a great leader and manager and there are many parallels that can be drawn between his management techniques and the skills needed to succeed in corporate life.

Or if you don’t buy that, let’s just say that the pretext above allows me to indulge a couple of interests of mine being people management and leadership and the two greatest movies ever made (The Godfather 1 and 2).....Francis no idea what you were thinking about “3”.... I’ve only seen it a couple of times....but there is at least one redeeming scene in the movie (Michael’s confession) ....more on “3” in a later post...
